Communist Bucharest Free Tour
Do you know what the Ceaușescu era meant for the Romanian capital? We'll learn about the main historical episodes of this key period of the 20th century in this free tour of communist Bucharest.
Communist Bucharest Free Tour
We'll start this free tour of communist Bucharest at the indicated time, meeting at the National Statistics Institute, in the city's historic old town.
For almost 50 years, the communist era in Bucharest changed the face of the Romanian capital in a remarkable way. Throughout the tour, we'll discover the main chapters of this key period of the 20th century and the legacy of the Romanian communist leader Nicolae Ceaușescu. His execution on Christmas Day 1989 marked a turning point in the country's history.
First we'll pass in front of the colossal Romanian Parliament. This gigantic building, considered to be one of the largest in the world, was built precisely at the time of Ceaușescu. We'll continue our route through the Izvor and Cismigiu parks and head over to near the former Royal Palace of Bucharest. There we'll learn about the history of the Romanian constitutional monarchy that lasted from 1881 until 1947, the year of the arrival of communism in the country.
Finally, after 2 hours and 45 minutes, we'll conclude our tour in the Revolution Square, named after the social uprisings that took place on this spot in December 1989.
